Social media giant Facebook has introduced a new tool in India that will help protect your profile picture from being downloaded, shared and even screenshot. This step can reduce the misuse of photographs. Misuse of photographs in India has rapidly increased on social media.

 

In a report, Facebook researchers found that some women do not consider their profile pictures secure in which their face is visible because they fear that their photograph may be misused.

New tools have been developed in collaboration with many organizations including the New Delhi-based Center for Social Research and Learning Links Foundation.

 

How to Use Facebook profile picture Guard tool

  • This feature is currently in India only for Android users.
  • To use it, you can update your Facebook app from the Google Play Store.
  • Now click on the help to protect your profile picture option.
  • Now tap on the profile picture guard option and turn it on.
  • Now you will see your profile photo save it with the Shield icon.
  • Now your photo will be clean.
  • As you save, you will see a blue color frame around the photo and your photo will be cleaned.

Facebook researchers found that some women do not consider securing their profile pictures secure in which their face is visible because they fear that their photograph may be misused.

 

Facebook’s product manager Aarti Soman said, “We are introducing new tools which will give more control to the people in India who can download and share the profile picture.” “With this, we are also exploring the way through which people can easily add design to the profile picture, our research has found that it will help to stop abuse.”
